introducing past volunteers

Meet Elise and Nicole (Lead vehicle driver and passenger)
Elise and Nicole, long-time friends, are the dynamic duo who have driven the lead support vehicle on the 6-day cycling tours for the past three years! Not only have they expertly navigated the peloton and kept everyone safe on the road, at every rest stop they’re there with water, snacks, and smiles, ensuring riders are ready for anything.
Fun fact: Nicole met Matt, a rider, during her first year volunteering, and they’ve been a couple ever since. We are truly inspired by Elise and Nicole’s dedication and positivity!

Meet Dave (Bus Driver)
Finding a bus for the 6-day tour in 2024 proved to be a challenge until Dave, an old friend of a committee member, stepped in. Not only did Dave find, negotiate and hire a bus for the event, he shuttled all participants throughout the duration of the 6-day ride.
Though Dave initially appears a little shy, his warm character and unwavering support made an immeasurable difference in the day-to-day success of the tour. Every time riders boarded the bus, they were greeted by Dave’s charming smile, adding a touch of warmth to their journey.

Meet Daniel (Bicycle Mechanic)
Daniel, who runs his own bicycle shop in Hastings, dedicated a whole week to support the Ride for Relief tour in 2024, leaving his wife to manage their shop. On the road, he provided riders with peace of mind, always ready to assist with any issues like punctures or gear malfunctions.
Even after the peloton reached their day’s destination, Daniel’s work wasn’t done. He ensured all the bikes were in top condition and ready to roll for the next day. Daniel’s expertise and dedication were invaluable to the success of the event.

Meet Theresa (First Aid)
Theresa, a practising nurse, brought invaluable medical expertise to the Ride for Relief team as a first aid volunteer in 2024. She joined alongside her husband, Andrew, who participated in the ride. Despite being kept busy with Andrew’s two falls and a hospital visit, Theresa ensured the health and safety of all participants with her exceptional medical skills and infectious smile. Her professional knowledge and caring nature made a significant impact on the success of the event—and Andrew’s ability to stay vertical.
